[UBCPC] Poetry Night

UBC Persian Club is pleased to inform you about its Poetry Night with Ziba Shirazi. This event will be held on November 14th, 2008.
We are organizing this event in two parts:
· In the first section, individuals that are interested to read their own poems are invited to do so.
· The second section is for people who are interested to share poems from other poets.
NOTE: Please note that the individuals, who are interested to read their own poems, must email Pouriya in advance at ubcpersianclub@gmail.com, in order for their names to be put on the list. The list is organized in a first come first served manner.

Ziba Shirazi: LIVE IN VANCOUVER

UBC Persian Club is proud to announce that Ziba Shirazi and her Orchestra will be holding a concert in Kay Meek Center at November 15, 2008.
Ziba Shirazi is a free spirit determined to spread her message of a better world through poetry and music. She followed her dream, spread her wings and landed in America in 1986. Born and raised in Iran, her style transcends cultures and genres. Her music has an ephemeral quality, a mystical power to convey love, hope and confidence.Ziba’s music is fresh as a spring breeze, her poetry bold as the summer sun. Her style is neither traditional nor pop, but a fusion of contemporary, Persian folk and American Jazz. Her compositions are a blend of quaint Persian melodies, world music and rich Persian poetry. Her soul radiates the best of ancient Persian culture.

About Kaveh:
“BORN IN 1968 IN CITY OF TEHRAN. HE IS THE OLDEST SON OF KOUROSH YAGHMAEI THE IRANIAN MUSIC LEGEND.
FROM EARLY CHILDHOOD HE WAS TIED TO MUSIC AND SHOWED MUCH INTEREST IN MUSIC.
AT AGE 8 HIS PARENTS DECIDED TO SEND HIM TO ONE OF THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS MUSIC ACADEMY IN THE COUNTRY NAMELY TEHRAN CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC .HE STUDIED PIANO AND ACADEMIC CLASSICAL MUSIC.
AFTER ISLAMIC REVOLUTION, IN 1987 HIS FATHER KOUROSH RELEASED HIS FIRST ALBUM AFTER 10 YEARS OF SILENCE NAMED DIAR. KAVEH’S FIRST PROFESSIONAL APPEARANCE WAS IN THIS ALBUM. DIAR IS A MODERN ARRANGEMENT OF SOME FAMOUS IRANIAN FOLKLORIC SONGS. THIS ALL INSTRUMENTAL ALBUM BECAME ONE OF THE TOP SELLER ALBUMS IN IRAN.

ONE OF KAVEH’S GREATEST ACHIEVEMENTS IS FOUNDING THE “ELECTRIC GUITAR PROGRAM” IN 2005 AT THE UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (DANESHGAH ELMI KARBORDI). THIS PROGRAM IS THE FIRST AND ONE OF A KIND IN IRAN.
IN 2005 HE MOVED TO VANCOUVER CANADA TO EXPAND HIS WORK IN CANADA AND UNITED STATES. HE STARTED TO WORK ON HIS NEW ALBUM AT THE SAME YEAR AND FINALLY AT THE END OF 2007 HE RELEASED HIS SECOND ALBUM “COLD SILENCE” (SOKOOTE SARD).”
